[I promise I wont be posting rants like this very often. I'll try to keep it light. I can see where many people may say I am "all problem and no solution"so I'll give you some solutions in my next post...for example: Cut Your Own Hair; Shave it half off, the long way, whatever that means to you; Take all your hair in a bunch and slide it right to left, slicing in with kitchen scissors (again, interpret that as you will)...maybe you shouldn't follow my haircutting advice. I wouldn't. So, until then, there's this...]
Prospective students
and stylists:
withhold your money
from the Corporate High Holy
who control the sales
of information
and products
The Figureheads of Industry
who manipulate
with a veneer
of Higher Purpose
YOU ARE ONLY SIGNING UP
TO GO TO SCHOOL
TO LEARN
AND GET A LICENSE
Corporate Beauty Schools
will tell you different
will sell you different
throwing in the notion
that they are not only teaching hair
but saving lives
As the Dean of Students
for a notorious Beauty Cult
once told me
in his nasal Mormon whine:
"We Are Here To Make Better People,
Not Better Stylists
We Fix Broken People!
Addictions, Loss, and Heartache
I've Seen Them All Mended Here
In Our Culture!
At Our School!
JOIN US!"
(and for three months I did
as an Educator
for The Cult
I will never
live it down)
if you are addicted,
I'm sure there are numbers
you can call
meetings you can attend
and none of them
are attached to
a Beauty School
The Leaders of Industry
will only serve to limit
your learning experience
with dogma and clapping
and maybe even
a little EST
So,
unless you need the coddling
save your money
find a Community College
pay in cash
if you can
dont let them wrap you
in their loans
they tell you anything they need to
to get you to sign on the dotted line
the facades of pink billowing curtains
and giant posters of Celebrity Smiles
only serve to hide the lack of learning
and utter frustration
trapped inside the classroom
glitter and glue
do not replace
solid learning
blind praise
heaped upon needy shoulders
does not replace
working at learning your trade
don't wait until you are like me
and you cannot bear it anymore
where you'd rather slit your face
than work in a salon
where the injustices
far outweigh
the benefits
and all you can do
anymore
is write about it
